I got back to my car this evening to discover a flat battery - I'd left the parking lights on it seems.

I'm not used to the car not reminding me the lights are on when I get out .

I'm sure there is some kit I can fit to have a beep sounded if I try the same manouvre again - anybody got any suggestions or experiences with them?

I read in another thread recently about being able to have auto window close on the alarm being set. Would it be possible to have it also kill any lights that are on with the same function? Or am I getting way too complicated for a simple problem?

All suggestions welcome!

Don't know how long you left your car, but parking lights are just that! They're designed to be left on when you leave the vehicle. Could be getting near the time for a new battery.
Lights on sounder was an option on new E30s, and is probably still available from the dealer, but cheaper aftermarket stuff is also available and easily fitted.

They were on for about 8 hours, from when I left it for work till I got back after. The irony didn't escape from me.

I assume fitting the BMW one would be a nicer job - possibly plug and play? Anyone know the parts numbers or how much it would cost?

it still amazes me that bmw were so penny pinching they didnt fit one as standard, even to the top of the range models.

even my metro had astandard lights on warning buzzer

lost count of the times i've left mine on, i think 6 hours was the logest, luckily it still started fine.

i must be too used to fiat / lancias, where the lights go out when you turn the ignition off, if you want to leave the sidelights on on purpose you have to press a button next to the ignition switch and turn the key back a notch before you remove it.

again, a far better system than just being able to leave the lights on by accident.

i suppose it doesnt help that i like to drive around with my lights on even in the day, i've had far too many close calls with people pulling out who obviously haven't seen me
cheers,

harry
