Hi
Does anybody know if the large bollt holding the crankshaft pulley on needs to be removed of to fit a new belt?
I have taken of the six 13mm bolts holding the auxilliary pulley of but need to know if the crankshaft pulley with sensor fitted now knocks of or does bolt have to be undo.
If bolt need undoing whats best way i have no prop fitted at moment so can't use gears with handbrake, but maybe only way??

Bolt doesn't need to be undone. Belt will JUST pass through the gap between the hub and the rear part of the bottom cover

if you have taken of the 6 small bolts, thats it. the pulley will come off, but it needs some persuasion, gently.....

This is one of those jobs that is very simple with the engine on the garage floor!!The pulley is on a taper, use your Birmingham spanner to free it,then as Brian has said, the belt can be fed past the cover. The problem is seeing what you are doing.

Plenty of room to work with the radiator out.

Hi
Thanks for replys.
I have noticed alot of threaded belt all around my cambelt.
never seen anything like it before. Its as though a belt has rubbed for one hell of a long time its a centimeter deep in some places. The belt fitted at the moment has rubbed slightly on the edge. But not to that extent . there is deep scoring on the inside of cam cover. i think this is of old never cleaned up, but worries me. Fisrt time ive stripped this car only owned 11months I have new tensioner pulley, cam belt and so on but really just need to check bottom end throughly. Any ideas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Brian says, definitely radiator out, then the inner shroud/fan cowling that fits in the front panel. Followed by removal of the kidney grill to make life super easy and you should be able to get you hands in and see what you are doing.

A defective design of idler pulley that was fitted at one time. The stem that held the bearing worked loose in the baseplate, and allowed the roller to lean inwards, throwing the belt against the outer cover.

This would make some big noises!!!!!! i thinking...
So when i put it back together through the engine over a couple of times by hand .
i will know if its not right?? the pulley you talk about ,is it to the right and just above the crankshft???

Strangely enough it doesn't make any noticeable noise! I've seen belts with considerably less than half their original width left.
It's the tensioner pulley that fails.

It is for me! See the Forum FAQs - it's all in there.
(the ones listed in the zone forum index, not the ones under Forum FAQ at the top of this page).
