ok fellow zoners some help would be great :)

I have a grinding metalic noise coming from the frong of the engine, first though, water pump but i've changed that and its still there, tried the broom stick handle method but can only really locate it to the front middle-lower.. alternator is new + i ran it for a few secs without the waterpump/alternator belt .. still there :( any rough idea's

I reckon something is fooked!

does it get louder/faster under load?

It used to before the waterpump change only grind between 1000-1500k revs.. Yes very stange that it would stop after 1500k revs, not really been able to check it properly in that way but still definatly grinding

Have you still got the engine stripped down?

Behind the crank pulley there is gear inside the housing on the outside of the engine block.

Could be debris stuck in there??

Could be the cam belt tensioner bearing.

Ok it was here, touching so lightly but making such a horrid noise, in the last pic the back edge is so sharp, like a knife edge, is it suppose to be rounded like the other edge on it

Mine did that for a bit, making a grinding noise. I sprayed them with wd40, and the noise hasn't come back. I'll check the state of the pulley and let you know...

nice one mate, i used card as a washer, only 1mm think and has sorted it, must be something with the new water pump being that slight bit shorter, i bought it from GFS

Not a great pic, but it does show that yours is ok (flat on one side, rounded on other)
