Hey guys, Im trying to renew the timing belt on the m20 engine and have got a bit of a problem, when trying to remove the fan/clutch assembly by placing a 32mm spanner on the large nut ahead of the pulley and giving the 32 mm spanner a large wack to loosen the large nut, nothing seems to happing i.e the nut does not come lose, so thinking that the large nut ahead of the pulley had seized on i sprayed some penetrating fluid on it, left this time to do its stuff and tryed again with the spanner still nothing, and when im trying to losen the nut all the pulleys are moving as its a left handed threat the nut has got and it's meant to come lose clockwise, does anybody know if there is another way to remove the fan/clutch assembly ? as the timing belt really needs to be changed a.s.a.p

Many Thanks Guys

When one of mine was stuck on fast I used an oil filter strap around the pulley to hold it all tight whilst I gave it a good whack.

or you could use this:

a 10mm spanner on one of the 4 fan bolts will gice you leverage
be under the car with your 32mm spanner as you have more leverage from that angle somebody holding the 10mm in a double spanner lock would help no end.

10" piece of 20mm flat steel bar with a hole drilled near one corner. Unscrew one of the pulley bolts and bolt the bar on using a slightly longer bolt. Turn pulley so that side of bar locks against the pulley hub, hold bar with one hand, 32mm spanner with other hand.
