Self Made De-Cat/ Cat By-Pass E30 M3 ?

I was thinking, to save buying an expensive Ԛ£200 Supersprint Center Section/De-cat, Do you think it would be possible to cut my existing E30 M3 standard center section before and after my cat, say for instance 3 inch's from each side of the cat, and then slide a piece of straight pipe(ever so slightly larger) inbetween and clamp it up. E.g Home made de-cat. and then sleve the cat on each end, with very slightly bigger pipe, and so when cat needs to go back on, or if it sounds poor, i can simply put it back on and clamp it up.

Or should i stop being a tight wad and pay for a supersprint one. ?
