depends how bad they are mate,
good antirust treatment can work well,
otherwise putting on new arches may be the only way.

i am in the process of doing this to mine!
So far i took a angle grinder and a sander to mine, got it back to bare metal, then treated the metal with a anti corrsion treatment, then filled if needed, then primered, and painted!!
bit of luck it wont be back for a while!

yeah main thing is to get back to some decent metal, just filling over rust will only last a couple of months.
halfords do a selection of rust treatment, Kurust i think is pretty good.

otherwise if the arches are totally gone its a case of cutting out and welding in new arches.

I've not had much luck with kurust in the past. I've used some stuff called POR15 Metal-ready which seems to work really well and also etch primes the metal.
Apparently it leaves a zinc type layer on the metal to provide some active protection in the future.
I'd also recommend a decent zinc based primer as a further guard against corrosion.
Really must get around to sorting all the rot on mine out!
