I wouldn't have thought there would be a plug for you to just plug in and play. like GDBN said use the exsisting wiring from the ashtray light and just splice into it, that way your gearknob will only light up when you turn your lights on

I have the official dealer instructions for installing this (and about 50 other things), and, as far as I can see, the official way is to cut the cigarette lighter bulb holder off, and to replace it with a crimp on socket and small extension loom.
PM me an email address and I can send you the pdf., but it won't be much use without the full kit.

Have just bought one like dobbie82 is illustrating to replace the original on the blue car where the MTec colours have faded anyway. Interesting, because there is a proper two pin interlocking plug at the end of the wires, so presumably this has a place to go. Looking at the type which GDBN is illustrating (the more common type found on eBay) there often seems to be a separate (sub?) loom supplied, so this would explain why the plug on the end of my illuminated gear-knob seems to have no where to go - and that seems consistent with what dazleeds has done. Still the cigarette lighter linked wiring seems the simpest and easiest to do.

Dazleeds. Out of interest, how easy was yours to fit, with the additional loom etc.?

BMW supplied a small sub loom with the knob, which was fitted instead of the connectors to the cigarette lighter lamp. When fitted, this provide an additional socket for the knob and replaced the connectors to the lighter.
