Hi, Anyone know what the story is with e28 diffs? I understand that e28 528i's had an LSD and that this fitted an E30? Is this true? E28 525E? They're pretty thin on the ground here and people want 250 quid for them. Cheers.

the diff from the e28 wont physically fit but the internals will. buy yourself a large cae open diff (doesnt matter what ratio) and then change the internals.

Friend of mine has just doen this with no rpoblems at all.

that depends which diff you're on about

Palazzo is right, the 528i and below diffs will fit (if you change the back cover and drivecups which takes 10 mins). they're the same as large case e30 diffs. not all 528is had an LSD though. mine didn't.

i have a 525e diff in my e30.

the one that doesn't is the 535i/m535i one which is larger still.

All 7 series came with LSDs but its the same casing as the M535 with a different number of backplate bolts and different output cups, dunno if the guts are transferable to a largecase e30 diff as I think its slightly smaller than the one off the 7. Shame as the one I have is in cracking condition..

Shipping a diff (or near anything else) to New Zealand tends to make things quite expensive. You guys don't know how lucky you are with the supply of new and 2nd hand parts you have over there.
