320 Auto Kick down / Auto Probs... HELP !!!

My 320i (87) kickdown cable snapped and a local mechanic fitted a new one. He said at the time he thought a spring had come off (on the gearbox side) the cable and that may effect the gear change.

All I know is it drinking juice and the cable "loops out" if I kick it to hard.
Is there a spring on the gearbox end of a kickdown cable ?

Anyone in the northampton area want to lend a hand?

There has got to be someone with some advice !
The kickdown cable is pretty slack but is new so I there a spring missing ???

There's no external spring on the cable, but I think there are a couple of springs inside the box like structure where the cable goes into the box.
