1985 316 Carb.
Speedo doesn't work....nothing - nada - zilch - zip - nowt - bugger all, etc.
Rev counter....works fine.
Temp gauge.... needle flicks up about 1/8" when I turn on the ignition but after that it's the same as the speedo.
Fuel gauge....works (I think). At least it's telling me I've got some fuel & I haven't spluttered to a halt yet.
Service lights....as per speedo.

I've checked the 6mm nuts on the back of the cluster & they are tight so my next guess would be SI batteries. Anyone else got any theories, clues, hints, ideas, flashes of inspiration, spare women (sorry about that), etc? Please?

Sooty -

NOTHING from the speedo at all??? That's odd. What had been happening was that it would kick in after the car had been running 5 minutes or so. I'm surprised it didn't kick in on the drive back to P'boro from mine, as it was working OK on Tuesday which was the last time I made a long journey in the car!

No m8, not a flicker. Had the girlie flash her lights at me when I went over 85 on the way back :D . Just didn't realise I was going that quick.
Shouldn't take too much to sort out the problem though. It's all part of the fun isn't it?

Have you tried the wiring at the speed sensor.
I've known it to "wear" there
Have had it happen to me
