does anyone have or had a problem involving the petrol gauge going on them?

mine stays pretty much in the middle but does move as i use petrol

only a little though (i thought i was just getting good mileage  )

when it goes below the half tank mark the red light comes on

??????

are they supposed to do that or is it just not giving me the accurate reading

need to know because i dont know about you lot but i dont fancy stopping in the middle of the m4

not an answer to your problem but i share the same problem!!

my half way is empty as well, i go by the OBC to work out whats left

i read somewhere that something under or behind the back seat that goes into the fuel tank needs cleaning

Wires to the sender unit may need cleaning or it could be the actual sender unit itself which has the levelling float stuck and wont go below a certain point.

OBC means on board computer... it shows the range you can cover with amount of fuel in the tank..

you'll have to go by the red light, which will come on when the needle hits half way

if your red light goes on when the tank says half way there is a problem!!! with both ya cars...

i think you will just need to clean the fuel tank sensors..

nice one people, if the guage actually moves then its not that so it must be a sensor or something then.

looks like the haynes manual will have to come out

unless anyone has any other ideas?

thanks anyway

Sounds like you have the setup which uses a level sensor in each half of the tank, and one is stuck on full.
Pull one of the sender plugs off and check the gauge goes to zero. Short across each sender plug in turn, and see which one makes no difference to the gauge reading, or just measure their resistance with a meter.
Also, this belongs in tech help!
