After 110mph car is uncontrolable
Moderator: martauto
I have a real problem here guys, for some reason after i hit the 100mph mark and continue accelerating, the car feels as if it is being pulled across the road, i will literally be holding the wheel straight and the wind pulls my car 3-4ft in each direction causing me to slow down, (its not just on windy days either) this happens all the time, i think its aerodynamic properties, does anyone know how i can sort this or what the problem might be, as the car never used to do this,(325i sport)............

Sounds like could be rear cross member axel bushes
thing is i dont beleive it to be a mechanical part, the only thing i feel is the wind literally pushing me all over the road, and this is before and after the new suspension, its now sitting 85mm and the front and rear, berfore it was on lowered springs sitting at about 100mm front and rear, as it was lower than it is now. but its really annoying when i cant drive past 100 safely. could it be areodynamic properties, i did have a front impact that wrecked the bumper bonnet and twisted the wings, replaced all but no further action was taken...

Sounds like you may have hit the nail on the head there? MOre damage caused than initially believed?coolq wrote:thing is i dont beleive it to be a mechanical part, the only thing i feel is the wind literally pushing me all over the road, and this is before and after the new suspension, its now sitting 85mm and the front and rear, berfore it was on lowered springs sitting at about 100mm front and rear, as it was lower than it is now. but its really annoying when i cant drive past 100 safely. could it be areodynamic properties, i did have a front impact that wrecked the bumper bonnet and twisted the wings, replaced all but no further action was taken...
Dont rive so bloody fast in an old car! You'll kill someone!
possibly, but there didnt seem to be much damage other than cosmetic, and drive slower, please dont tell me that with all of these forced induction/ engine swapt e30s, that you dont do such speeds on a daily basis, i know i do but thats via the a 11 and a14 going to and from work, im not gonna buy high specs cars to do 70mph, if defeats the purpose of buying/modding it.
I dont think anyones suggesting you should drive like an old granny but just be careful in an old car, not to mention wanting to hold on to your licence, as the saying goes "you dont know what you got till its gone"
true, indeed but i never had this problem in my E30 turbo, that thing was my baby, miss it like hell but the cash pile i have it a consolation.
now planning to turbo an m30, watch this space, im still waiting for ant to get back to me tho.....

If I was you I'd seriosly think about getting the car up on ramps and thoroughly checked out before driving it all let alone at speed. Especially if it's been in a previous accident. Some thing major could be wrong if it's handling as bad as you say. I don't want to panic you - it could also be some thing as simple as wheel alignment but better to be on the safe side.

sure i will do, but below 100 its fine, im sure its an aerodynamic thing tho, it must be since its the wind blowing me all over the place, evern though the car does look straight, no dents/ ripples in the bodywork. the only thing ive noticed is that the doors dont match up to the window frame on the rear, (coupe) thre slightly higher........

that don't sound good mate, if anything perhaps the doors would be sitting lower due to dropping on the hinges?
But i could be completely wrong there.
you could be driving a bit of a banana there.
Have you ever had a good look at the front chassis legs?
There's a thread on here, not sure what section, Beardymat is repairing the front end of his car and there are good pics of the chassis legs and the repairs he is doing to it.

yea, all legs are fine, all it was i hit another car at 20mph when it decided to do an emergency stop in front of me, thats all. since it was lowered the wheels went up into the arches damaging them and the impact wrecked the bumper and bonnet was dented inward as my car went under the other 1, managed to drive away tho, got it fixed a few weeks later, still drove the car every day.

start simple get the wheels balanced i was told the more they are out of balance le lower spead you will notice at get them on car balanced and then aligned not just the fronts but all 4 also check ground to gaurd height on both fronts if its out it will need to be shimmed to compensate on you wheel alignment.ps drive safe its not the speed that will kill you but the sudden stop

each to their own i guess but if its capable then why not????Grantley wrote:Sounds like anyone careless enough to drive that fast in the WET doesnt deserve to keep thier licence or thier car !
This happen to my mates 325i sport, in the end the n/s/f suspension turret welds came apart under the fuse box and down the inner wing as well as the rear cross member (not the sub frame) snapping in two!!!! from the shock down the prop into the diff.coolq wrote:I did have a front impact that wrecked the bumper bonnet and twisted the wings, replaced all but no further action was taken...
Go over your car with a fine tooth comb checking all them 'hard to see' places for safety sake.
The final solution to my mates sport was selling it off in parts
Hope this helps, Neil.

This happens to me, im putting it down to my 17" missmatch tyre wheels. Im putting on some bbs soon. Its probably not the shocks, bushes, rear axle members, steering components, rack etc as these are all new on my car and it does it. Whats your wheel size?

I dont have a problem with poeple getting the best out of thier cars as long as its on a track and from what I've read on here about "GUG" being a bit of a beast I can only imagine to get the best out of it you'd need to be on a track. When I posted the earlier reply I assumed you were talking about driving like that in the wet on a road, if I was wrong and you were talking about driving on a track then I appologies for that statement. But in all fairness everyone knows driving at very high speeds on our overcrowded roads is a bit of a no no and can at times invite dissaster !
