Hey,

over the past couple of months (as long as I've had the car) the biting point of the clutch has got closer and closer to the floor and its got to the point where the clutch has to be right in before it would go into gear.

The guy I bought it off said it had recently had a new one but I've got no proof!

Does anybody have any ideas as I thought the sign of a clutch going was that it slips when you pull off?

cheers,

Sounds like you've got a leak in the hydraulic system. Your clutch slave cylinder and/or master cylinder will be leaking. Try draining the fluid and pushing through some new, clean clutch fluid. Bleed the system afterwards. If the same symptoms start happening again then you definitely have a leaking cylinder.

Agreed on that, you should be able to see the fluid leaking, mine went on the slave and it was really easy to spot once I actually went looking.

thanks guys, much appreciated!

It wouldn't go into gear this morning so I'm guessing its a cold night under the car for me!!

Are either of the cylinders easy to replace and or expensive?

thanks again

The slave cylinder is relatively easy to change, it's bolted to the passenger side of the gearbox bellhousing with 2 nuts, undo these and the hydraulic line and fit a new one. Re-bleed the system with fresh fluid afterwards.

The slave cylinder is about Ԛ£20 from eurocarparts or german and swedish.

The master cylinder is about double the price and is a bit of a pain to change as it sits above the pedal box in the car.

Sounds more like the slave though.
