I know I'm being a pain as there are loads of threads, but I seem to remember something about joining the red and black wire, but cant find it. Mine work ok for a few days then it packs up for a day or so.
The only thing I haven't tried is removing the connecter from the door, as the passenger side was a struggle but the drivers side is "proper" stuck and I'm worried I will muller the cables.

It's not a red and a black wire - it's two seperate red/black wires going to two seperate pins of the door socket.
Remove the footwell speaker - they're in there somewhere!
