hi guys

got a 1989 316i coupe with a power drain

I noticed when sitting in her at night with no key in ignition that the window, sunroof lights are still on and still operate. also the same with the OBC. Except its not bright and don't work the temp button when car ignition is off only time date. The windows and sunroof still work when the fuse is out. unless i took wrong one out.

any ideas

whats it like when the car is idling? does the hazard button light get brigher when you rev the car?
Could be a few problems, like a duff voltage regulator, duff alternator, loose belt, duff bushes or a duff battery.

Going to need more than that mate,....

I used a tool and it said that the battery was charging well when ignition is on.

would the windows and sunroof work if car is switched off?

I didn't relise the windows and roof work where suppose to work when ignition is off when the door is open.

I pushed (with my finger) in the little nob on spring thing that turns off the lights when door is closed. the window and sunroof stop working and the lights go off.

The thing is when i close the door, the lights don't go out. (same thing happens with the boot) I'm wondering if the door is actually pushing this thing in.

any ideas how to sort this lol thanks

Hello Matt

It could be a broken spring in the door pin - a trip to the scrapyard is the best option although a new one won't be much. As a temporary thing, add a couple of self adhesive sticky pads (for number plates and interior mirrors) on the inside of the door where the door pin touches. This will press the door pin in more and could solve the problem.
