ticking sound from rear hub

i have a 325i on a H plate..

i am getting a ticking sound from the left rear hub, i changed the rims on the car yesterday from 17s to 15s and the sound seems to be coming from the hub itself..

i jacked the car up and spun the wheel and it gives off a ticking sound, when driving it gets louder..

anyone had any similar problems?

It may be something as simple as your disc backing plate having been bent a little when you were changing the wheels, could be fouling the disc.

take out the wheel bolts and look at the ends i had this with a new set of locks o fitted to mine thay about 1mm to long

wheel bearing should be fine as it never made noise when i had the alpinas on..

i have checked the disc baking plate, seems fine..

could be the bolts..

thing is when i took the wheel off last night and turned the drum with my hands (at slow rotation) i was still getting the clicking sound..

Might be a handbrake shoe spring loose. Whip the disc off. Could have been disturbed with the wheel change.

yeh could be that..

might aswell check it out as the hand brake needs tightening anyway..

In that case I would best that one of the shoe springs has come out - they tend to twist their slot into a round hole over time then pop out.

I would guess the new wheel is thinner, so the bolts go into the hub further, just flicking the handbrake springs as it rotates, check how many times it clicks per rev, if its only one or two try undoing a couple of bolts at a time to establish if this is the problem.

I did this once, when I put a steel wheel on a Merc which had alloys(following a puncture in the middle of Algeria) and bent two of the bolts within a metre. I was very lucky to get the buggers out!
