Hi After 6 months in bits I’ve got the 320i cabrio back in 1 piece. You can imagine my frustration as it won’t crank also the fuel pump doesn’t work which may point to the problem. It was working fine before taking it apart and I’m at a loss where to start looking. All the wiring and fuse box was removed also the dash I left the Motronic box in. All the lights work as they should also the cluster seems to be working fine eg fuel gauges etc. It just seems the engine bay is dead. Any help where to start looking gratefully received. David

I would start by making sure you have a good engine-to-body earth strap in place.

If the dash has been apart, make sure the green wire behind it is connected:

Also, is there an immobiliser fitted? It may need bypassing or removing if you don't have the key to de-activate it...

Hi Ben and Maurice,

Thanks ever so much for your reply’s really appreciated. I discovered the diagnosis flow chart late last night during a bit of bedtime reading and put it to good use this morning.
Green wire on coil lights up test light.
Found Black and Yellow wire from main loom not connected to the ignition switch loom as it’s a separate wire and connector and missed my attention. Engine cranks now
Bridged the Fuel Pump Relay and pump works fine.
Can’t seem to get the DME relay to power the Fuel Pump Relay it has 12v on the large red wire, so I’ll continue to investigate this afternoon.
Many Thanks
David

An update on the no start issue.
The DME relay checks out OK tested it and it clicks in when ignition switched on.
The Fuel Pump works when bypassed and the engine now starts I have a feed to the red and white wire from the DME Relay the problem seems to be no earth on the Green and Brown wire hence the Fuel Pump Rely not clicking in. Just wondering where does this wire go to earth.
