Hi I have discovered a horror in my LHD 1988 E30 Cabriolet. I took the LH wing off to repair the wiring on the repeater and notice some rust traces pulled off the sealant between the inner wing and bulkhead and one thing led to another.
Following the brilliant advice in the posts here I’ve stripped the dash out, interior and wiring and fuse box. This has revealed rust along the inner wing to bulkhead join also creasing and damaged to the bulkhead panel. The car has obviously had a major repair and new inner wing and chassis leg fitted some time ago and the repair joint was sealed without paint.
My question is can this repair be done, and any advice on tackling it would be appreciated. I’m not in the mood to scrap it as the car stands me in over 10k and the rest of the car is in good shape. At the moment the engine is still in situ.
I’ve welded up many MGBs in the past but this is a bit different.
I’ll try and load some photos.

Welcome to the Zone! :P

It's a bit ugly, for sure, and it must have been quite some crash to have damaged the bulkhead like that! 8O

However, I would suggest it just needs bare-metalling then properly MIG-welding all the way along, and dressing if required with an angle griner and a bit of filler then paint to make it look normal again, although it is usually covered with trim, so you could get away with just welding it and a lick of primer/rust protection on the pedals side of things.

You could use a spot-weld type dent puller to try and pull out all the little dents, but it would be very hard work to make it look perfect!

It might be a good idea to see if you can get it on a jig to check the chassis alignment is correct...

Thank you for your encouragement. I will have a go at some cuts along the top and see how it looks luckily it’s under the rain water channel. Rather daunting trying to figure how to do the repair in one panel so I’ll try a couple of patches and see how it goes. As it’s so bent I’m not sure of the correct profile I’m assuming the holes for the brake booster should be in the correct plane.
Thanks

Here's what a LHD bulkhead should look like (scroll down on page 2 of the link below):
