Good evening . My check oil warning light came on tonight but not the dashboard oil light, I switched off the engine , waiting a while and checked that the dashboard oil light came on which it did and went out almost immediately when starting the engine , but the check panel light remains on .Are they sharing the same sensor ? and if so why would one show low oil and the other not . The oil level is as it should be

the sensor on mine requires the oil to be really full for it to go off.

also afaik the one on the dash is oil pressure not level
Try topping up your oil. Go right to the top line on the dipstick but not over.

Cheers for the reply , I agree never overfill , which is just as bad as running low .so the check panel light is level only ?

yep level only afaik
Probably your sensor is gone or you just not filled high enough. Mine requires it to be really full to go off, I think its by design, or maybe as the sensors get gunked up they need more. If you fill up and light is still on then probably sensor gone or there is a damage to the wire somewhere. Depending on how much you really care, you can just short the wires to the sensor I think and remove it. Or buy a new sensor. When you press the check light oon the check panel does the oil light come back on?

If insufficient oil level is not the root cause...
As a suggestion, check the connector for the oil level sensor.
The connector housing can fall apart when it's covered in grease and subject to high temperatures and create a false low oil signal.

Removing and cleaning the oil level sensor with fuel or degreaser can extend it's life if it is gummed up.

If that's working fine - may want inspect & disconnect or reconnect the check panel for corrosion

If I'm filled close to (or above) the top line of the dipstick it triggers the sensor.

My light works as it should, it only comes on when the level is below/very near the bottom of the dipstick. The light be off if your level is anywhere above the minimum.
