2 flat bladed screwdrivers, blade width at least 5mm to close both tabs at the same time

Cheers. Yeh assumed it was something like this but there’s so much shit in the way. Very long screwdrivers obvs.

Its harder to get the replacement retainer in position to whack in--make sure you have an assistant to let you know its lined up in position as its impossible to see it under the battery tray on an M40. A job that is not as easy as it looks.

It's not that bad just a bit fiddly. Make sure plastic clip is right way up through bulkhead

Well time for me to bring up this thread. My throttle cable snapped and I’m about to replace it. Do you pinch on the sides (or top and bottom) of the block in the firewall to remove it? I watched a video of a LHD one in which the user just hammers it out. But based on the comments above it seems like you press in the sides of the block using the two screwdrivers. Am I right? Thanks

Edit: nevermind - i smashed it out with a big punch and installed a new one

Theoretically you compress the two wings but normally I just bash with large screwdriver to break them it’s pretty awkward.
