Does an auto to manual transmission swap require an ECU swap too?

Greetings to the E30 Braintrust,
I’m helping a friend with a 1991 325i cab. Transmission swap’s done. Mechanically, everything works fine. Airbag light’s on, as is ABS light. Airbag light resets, but retriggers as soon as the car is moving.
ABS does not work, wheels lock under braking. The ABS light does not reset.
I read the E30Zone wiki on Auto to Manual swaps, as well as the one for the brake system. No joy.
Thoughts?
Thanks for any advice.

In a word, no. There might be minor software differences between the ECU in an auto and that in a manual, but nothing that would have any noticeable effect on anything.
There's nothing that should affect either the ABS or SRS systems if all you have done is just change the transmission and disconnect the starter disable circuit.
There's a well known cause of your ABS problem if you've changed the engine loom, but if nothing has changed there, then that's not it.
SRS on an E30 doesn't exist over here, so I have no experience of them. I do have a US circuit diagram though, and that doesn't show any road speed information being fed to the SRS ECU, so I can't see how it's affected by the car moving.
Is there anything else yoou've done to the car, other than a transmission swap?
