I have just bought a mtech 2 wheel to fit to my 89 sport to replace the mtech 1 fitted but I am having trouble fitting it.
I thought it was a straight swap as the car is an mtech 2 version but the new wheel will not fit and does not seem to have the splines for the steering lock to fit into.
The steering lock mechanism seems to be in the way

Do I require a boss to fit this wheel?

any help is appreciated.

Are you sure you haven't bought an E36 tech 2 wheel?? You shouldn't need a boss.

It should be a straight swap providing you have the correct mtech 2 wheel.

Ones from E36 DO NOT FIT and you can't do anything about it. Also they are not worth much...

You need to have the key in the ignition to disengage the steering lock or the wheel won't go on......

I'm sure you're not the first person to be caught out by this. I'm always seeing tech II wheels being advertised as fitting E30, E34 and E36 :x

Its even more confusing buying them for E34s. The early E34s, from 87-91 use the E30 spline, and don't seam to have airbags.

The E34s from 91-96 have the later E36 spline.

So you can buy an E34 MTech 2 and it may or may not fit your E30 depending on the year and other factors.
