Bit of back ground around the issue, I've been trying to help out Adam with his Hartge converted H28 to sort a couple a of faults but as its a bit of a mash up of parts finding correct info/diagrams that match is difficult.

Current fault is the oil level sensor, on the check control the light is always on.

We've traced the wire to what I presume is the pre facelift c101 plug, a rectangular 19 pin plug on the pas side wing the colours up to it are correct to the below drawing yellow and blue and green and Violet but after it we have two wires coming from it a red with a thick black stripe and black with a thick red stripe.

Currently the oil level sensor looks to have had the top electrical bit broken off and siliconed over and the wires from the c101 have a male and female bayonet crimps on with the clear coated boots like BMW used these are currently connected.

We believe the car should have the two pin (brake pad sensor style) plug oil sensor that earth's through the engine rather than a separate earth through the 3 pin plug like on the newer style.

We've tried earthing each one in turn but the light stayed on and we've tried earthing both and still the same, but then again as its never worked while Adam has had the car we don't know how it's supposed to work.

How should the check control work? Should it light up on the ignition and then go off whe the car is running or do you have to press reset everytime you get in?

We have a used sensor on the way but thought we could prove it first to check nothing else was a miss.
Can anyone offer any advice?

Oil level LED should stay out when the blue/purple is earthed and the blue/white is connected to nothing (should be connected to earth via 1000 ohms, but I don't think this matters).
Don't forget that once the LED is on, it stays on until the ignition is turned off.

Hi Brian, thanks for the reply, right we have just tried this and with the blue/ yellow which turns into the blue Violet earthed and nothing on the other we still have the light on. We've tried it after switching the ignition and also after pressing the reset but still the light is on. I've checked the wires to earth at the C101 and both are open limit so we don't seam to have any stray earths in the loom.

Any other ideas?
