Finally ripped out the last remnant of the dead Clifford - As you can see from the photo, it is well and truly torched, pretty lucky the car didn't go up in smoke whenever the system died - long before I had the car.

What I wasn't aware of, the 4 large cables carry power to and from the two white relays - one is the ignition circuit, and one the starter circuit - so, had either of these relays failed at some point - yes they were still working! I'd have lost the ability to start the car and would have had no idea why.

Horrible!

Just pull the DME relay if you leave your car somewhere dodgy, and make sure your locks work!

The way that was wired would only be a minor inconvenience to anyone who knew what they're doing anyway.
Wire from battery+ on the bulkhead to the coil +, and fire the starter motor from the diagnostic socket. Ten seconds at most.
