The facts: '90 cabbie. Last weekend I replaced the lollipop bushes with M3 ones. Both wishbones are new (ball joints and drop links too, and I did the front bearings last year). Driving it home was a massive improvement over the old bushes, felt much tighter and more solid at the front, no obvious issues or clunking. The shocks and springs are standard kit and look in fairly good nick (no weeping or rust on springs etc). I didn't changed the shock tops. I then got the alignment done.
The problems: When stationary turning the steering wheel from lock to lock there is a gawd awful clunk when turning just past the straight ahead position (I swear the car shakes when it clunks). I don't remember the clunking before the alignment was done, but can't promise it wasn't there. Also, if I hit a pothole (so that's quite often round here) the car clunks and feels like it skips around for a couple of meters! I don't know if these are related, or due to firmer bushes, but all the above has happened after fitting the bushes and getting the alignment done!
Does this ring a bell with anyone? Have I cocked something up, could the bloke who did the alignment have cocked something up?
Any guidance or pointers would be gratefully received
Loud clunk when turning steering wheel !?!

What a cock!! My bad, I appear to have left the ball joint that attaches the wishbone in the engine bay loose (the one on the passenger side that you need several extender bars to reach)!!
This was allowing the wishbone to move and what the clunking noise was!!

it alway pays to have a quick double check of the nuts and bolts after youve been doing work on the carBackinBlack wrote:What a c**k!! It sure does - usually I'm OCD about checking nuts and bolts on the parts I've been working on! I presume I was too keen to get it out for a test drive
