The wiki article on windscreen wiper faults, when it gets to re-assembling the wiper motor, talks of greasing the contact disc of the parking mechanism, then says it worked badly until the electrical contacts cut through the grease. Surely it cannot be right to spread grease on electrical contact surfaces in the first place?

That's OK to grease, it lubricates the contact and prevents the disc from corrosion.
A rusty disc causes the problems in the first place.

Difference between the ideal world and the real world.
Done that now, I think the problem was that the old grease had gone very solid and was preventing good contact. Anyway clearing all that off and putting on a light smearing of fresh grease has worked wonders. It is a bit of a fiddle getting the motor out and back, but the excellent wiki advice gives confidence. With a new motor at £187 it is certainly worth trying to keep the old one going. Inspired by that success I went on to clean up the window switches which were being moody. What an excellent resource this site is!
It is brilliant!
I just had to do mine too : ) worked a treat! Though I have to pull the right hand paddle/lever further than normal to activate the motor for the windscreen washer...it was like this before...some contact cleaner perhaps, something for next time!
