Should be a simple push fit, but the filter sock shouldn't have come off separately.

No, it's stuck and won't come off.

I bought a pump with the filter so I presume I won't need that plastic part that I am about to destroy completely

You mean romanian girl's car? Yes, she used to own that car and now she doesn't anymore.

Now is noon and you posted on 10th April 6:38pm?

Right... Still waiting for the pump to arrive, so hopefully tomorrow.

This what I did today, removed the clocks to check the bulbs.

I am not sure about this now... On the other side there is a temp gauge. Shouldn't I have a bulb here to tell me the engine is overheating eventually? Or is this standard?

Image

I drove the car with very little petrol in it and the light didn't come on. The bulb seems to be fine. Will check it tommorow if it's working.

Is there a fuse for this somewhere?

Is this the temp sensor that goes to the ECU? There must be another one somewhere for the temp gauge.

Other temp. sensor is a little further along, at the same level, and even more inaccessible.
The red painted section of the fuel gauge does not mean you are nearly out of fuel - the light doesn't come on until the needle reaches the bottom of this section, and enters the section that lights up.
There is provision for an overheat warning light on the back of the cluster, but the red section on the gauge isn't translucent, and the bulb isn't fitted or wired on any E30 I've seen.
Some six cylinder non UK models have an overheat switch fitted to the water outlet elbow, but AFAIK, even these have the warning light in the overhead 'check' panel, rather than use the position on the gauge.

Thanks, it's just that the light didn't come on, so I suppose I just keep driving it and see what happens. Hopefully I won't get stuck with no petrol.

I'm having a much bigger issue now. The guy from ebay said he got the fuel pump from the supplier but there was no filter with it so he is looking for one. On realoem.com there is no part number for this filter and I can't find anything on ebay or google. It always finds me the fuel filter that's in the engine bay. Where to get that filter that's under the pump?

I'm just looking at something now. When I removed the fuel sender there was no O ring between the sender and frame of the unit, but on realoem.com I can see that there is some an o ring.

But here on this picture I googled there is no O ring.

Should I get that O ring or is it ok without it?

I rang some motor factors and one of them has just the pump with the filter for around 130 euro. I will wait and see what the ebay guy will come up with. Fro him it would be around 70 euro. That's a big difference.
