as above my 88 325i sport stalled on me and now doesn't fire
I replaced the coil, dizzy cap and rotor arm but that made no difference.
I've got power to the coil and continuity to earth but no spark.
I've checked both the sensors on the bellhousing and they read ok.
I have power to the main relay at pin 30
I have power to the fuel pump relay at pin 30 and 86 with the ignition on.
Does anyone have any ideas as i'm stumped.

Reference pin on the flywheel probably made a bid for freedom.

I didn"t think it could be the relays as i thought the dme relay passed the power to pin 86?
will check for the pin. i assume if i line the front pulley up to tdc then it should be in line?

First point is that your car is a mid '87 at the latest, not a '88, if the above is true. Males a lot of difference to the diagnosis.
The only way you can check the ECU, other than checking EVERYTHING else, so that it can only be the ECU, is by fitting a replacement.
Does the fuel pump switch on when cranking?

IIRC (and it's an 'if', since my normal reaction to coming across this primitive system is to bin it and replace with M1.3), the fuel pump will still operate with just one particular flywheel sensor working, but you won't get sparks.
Try removing both flywheel sensors and swapping them over, including their plugs, and see if the fuel pump still operates.

Really don't know if my 325i will be Motrinic, 1.1 or 1.3, built 17 November 1987, registered March 88 on an E. Any ideas? Hope you can get to the bottom of your issues .

Put your VIN into the ETK, and see what ignition parts it lists for your car.
