Hello.

My E30 320 Auto seems to stay in first gear longer than it should.

For a while its been revving to around 3500 rpm before changing into 2nd then 3rd virtually straight away.

This morning it was revving to 5000 RPM before changing to 2nd, and then 3rd virtually straight away. This is from cold.

Can anyone help me with what to check - I'm sure this isn't right.

Thanks again all.

Level and condition of oil. TBH, if that doesn't sort it, then it's replacement time.

Oil and filter (strainer) change, then if it's still the same a manual convertion is in order .

It is switchable yes. Its on E but does the same on S and 123.

Its better when the car is warmer.

Ive got it booked in with an auto gearbox specialist today - i cant change it to a manual as i can't drive a manual car (disability).

Ill keep you posted but any help would be good.

So small update.

Auto specialist test drove it and said that there is nothing wrong with the actual gearbox. If you use the 123 setting it drives lovely. So its going in for a scan of the fault codes and a check/change of the oil.

He thinks it might be (and i might be slightly wrong here as we were chatting loads) a speed sensor or a throttle something sensor. The car ticks over slightly oddly.

Im relieved the gearbox is good.
