325i Sport - High pitch whistle at around 2000 rpm

Hi Guys

My car has developed this strange high pitch, bird like whistle at around 2k rpm. When I lift off the accellerator it whistles but when I touch the accelerator again just the tiniest amount the noise stops. It does whistle when accelerating hard around this rev range as well and it sounds like its coming from the top back of the engine.

Any ideas?

Failed inlet manifold gasket. Get a piece of small bore hose, stick one end in your ear, and move the other end around the join between the manifold and the head, and you should be able to pin it down.
