Lowering advice
Moderator: martauto
Hi guys.. I'm just putting some 17s on my newly sprayed 325
and really only looking to fill the arch so need to lower the car a little.. I'm not looking at dropping it to the foor, I imagine 40mm max.. No totally sure.. But could I just replace the springs or should I replace the shocks too.. ? I was thinking as it's not dropping to the floor just springs? If so any advice on a good quality spring? Thanks Justin

Yes, you can just replace the springs if going for a 40mm drop. H&R or Eibach are recommended:

You can replace just the springs, but if the dampers are the originals, the chances are that their damping performance is a tiny fraction of what it should be by now.

Best thing seems to be to use a 40/40 kit and then use an e90 drop hat to get the front down to ~50mm
This sits the car quite nicely, with a bit of rake and not too silly suspension geometry.
Watch it with m3 eccentric bushes though as you can get a lot of inside edge wear at the front thanks to ~2.5 deg negative camber and lots more castor.

Only if you want a car that handles, drives with some degree of comfort, doesn't wear its tyres to the canvas on one edge while having the full depth of thread on the other, destroys its sump regularly, and doesn't slide off the road at the slightest provocation.harleuFXRS wrote:oh dear....iv got 17's onmmy e30 and iv gone nuts and bought a -60mm spring kit and i in trouble???

What make is the kit? Cheap ones give a bad ride...... Sore spine etc ....
60mm is considered the limit before mega props happen. That said on 17s with people in the back the tyres may hit the arch, body shops can roll them back abit..
tyre wear will be an issue, directional tyres and regular checking and turning of tyre to even the wear around the car may slow down the wear rate .....
Just being honest really, its the old battle of looks v practicality...

17s are a no/no. If you have any sense of a cars handling you'll appreciate 16s are as far as you want to go on an e30. Bmw, Schnitzer, alpina and hartge all did the same.
