Does it need a washer when replacing?

When I took it off I don't think it had one (may have fallen off, was tricky to get to) but I get the feeling there should be one on there...

Maybe a copper one like the oil sump?

Don't think mine had one when I did my coolant change.
It's awkward to get to, think its 25nm to tighten up.

I got a new sump plug and washer when I changed the coolant.

Just might be a pig to get it off next time without one and might sheer off.

Cheers all. I didn't see the reply before I put the plug back in, so it's gone in without a washer, it was greased before replacing so hoping it doesn't stick.

It might not stick, but without a washer it might not seal either
