Steering column noise driving me mental!

Ive got this really annoying squealing coming from just behind the steering wheel, push the wheel away and it disappears, pull towards you gets louder. I took the wheel off and sprayed some grease around the column to no avail can anybody please help me its driving me round the bend!

Carbon brush / brass ring for the horn is the usual culprit. In theory it shouldn't need lubricating, but in the case of an E30, it requires a smear of grease on the ring.
