I know this may be obvious to you regulars but can anyone tell me what is the likely cause of the above problem? I am really having to give the f****** thing a smack now to shut it and i am worried that i wil break it once and for all if i don't fix it soon.

Cheers :(

new handle needed mate, maybe lock but usually the barrel is fine. Is the glovebox not wonky or out of line? Hinge knackered or the suppporting straps snapped?

The glovebox seems to be in line. It just won't shut easily without a smack. I don't lock it.

is it a pain to open too?

mine became the above plus not shutting. Got a new (used) handle/mechanism from Dazleeds. Just been too lazy to fit it. Missus bust the hinge when she kicked hell out of it on the way to Donnington :-x

Usual cause is too much junk in the glovebox!
Hinge at the back of the glovebox is adjustable in all directions, so check that the catch goes into it's rectangular hole square and in the middle, and that everything is screwed up tight.
Glovebox catches on an E30 can be a bit fragile, so don't give it too much abuse.

I had that problem for a while. It turned out to be just loose screws in the hinge causing a mis-alignment of the catch.

I had this problem big time on one of mine, the cause turned out to be the moulded piece of plastic to the right of the glovebox, I think its held in with just one screw but its in a kinda oval hole, allowing you to adjust it.

If I remember, ill take a pic when I go out to my car lunchtime.
