318i Fuel guage problems

Hi everyone.

My fuel guage seems to be stuck on 3/4 of a tank. I know full well it dosent have that in it. As when you bang it on the bottom it sounds emptier than the pub on a Sunday evening.

Is there a way of telling if it's the guage or the sender or the wire between?

Also just curious as to what kind of average mileage I'd get on a tank? I'm not sure on tank size in my one but I know they are all different...
