Appears to be a Volvo 850 T5 unit:

Indeed, the two wires going into it will be an ambient air temperature (AIT) sensor.

Ah... I did say volvo earlier, but wasn't sure if I'd made that up!!!

As for the difference - I can't really be sure as it was done at the same time as all my other mods during the 2.7 build!!!
Haven't run this engine any different!!!

The Miller GEN III is the VAG part

Then all you need to do is either get a live map or see whether Speedtouch can do you a chip.
Now there's an idea winkeye

I've got a nice bonus coming in the next few weeks so (fingers crossed) I'll be going for this :D

Just a thought would you need to bridge two points on the ecu to run this Maf/chip combo same as you would with the kit from miller??

Yea, installation would be exactly the same as the Miller MAF.

Here's a couple of pics of my Miller GEN III,

The socket looks like it may have been modified to suit the E30 plug? No idea whethe anything else has been done.

Steve, might be worth just grabbing one from a scrapple for comparison or buying a cheap non Bosch item for now.

Kedge that's what I we planning to do first :-) also I'm sure some Volvo maf's are the same, will have a look at the one in/on my 850 later as I'm sure it's a Bosch unit.

Also, Leeds utd?? Oh please

Just had a look online & it would seem that it is a Bosch unit also the maf on my Volvo looks to be a Bosch but I can't find the part number without dismantling the whole air box area :x

Also the socket area looks to be the same as the one in your picture.

Just had a look on eBay & I can get a brand new maf (sensor + housing) for £30 + free p&p for the a3 1.8t, so I might give that a try as well when I get my bonus :D

I wasn't going to do this mod as soon as some of you guys are going to do by the sounds of it. But will be very interested in your results. I would like to know how you get on with a chip to run it. I thought it would need a live remap. Please keep us updated guys.

I can't speak for the rest but I'll be using the chip to start with then going for a remap to make the most of it,

It's all down to personal choice & budget at the end of the day, let us know what you decide to do.

I've got a couple of different chips to try for when I'm running in my engine but I'll want it live mapping ASAP, might leave the MAF off until then though, will have to see.

Just a thought, Speedtouch would it be possible for you to do a "hybrid" chip??

I;e a "wild" chip to suit the miller maf?? Would this be possible??

Will do but it's not going to be for a fair while yet. DanThe told me to use a chap up Rochdale way, will try and find the PM with his name. Dan recons he's best around for M20 mapping.
