I am replacing my M40 timing belt. how do i set the timing correctly, is there timing marks or something?
any feedback would be helpfull.

nope make a cam lock tool {slot in end of camshaft at front is in line with the head face}
crankshaft is locked via hole above starter on block{usually has a bung in it to seal debris} goes through block and flywheel type.

i aint got one but have done em on e30 /e36 and the cam pulley is not located to camshaft (has scope to alter timing slightly)and someone in past has probably punched it up which is ok as long as head/gasket heights arnt altered i.e skim /thicker gaskets etc....if so cam and ignition will be incorrect for obvious reasons
