Car is chugging and spluttering intermittently particularly in 2nd gear. Was going to put it into the garage last week but it seemed to sort itself out but when i started it this morning it started up again and I struggled to get it home.
I had a similar problem 6 months ago and the mechanic said he fixed a hose and that the fuel air mixture was too high, sorted that but said I also had a worn air-flow meter.
Could the recent spluttering be this playing up?, i'm almost certain it is but if anyone can give me some advice it would be mondo appreciato...
Worn Air-Flow Meter?

Check the connector going to the AFM...check the contacts are nice and clean and check that where the wires are crimped onto the connector pins that all crimps are still good.
I had this problem that turned out to be a wire not properly crimped onto its pin at the AFM plug.
What model/year E30 do you have?

The tension of the spring in AFM for the flap can change over time which can cause issues. The spring can be adjusted once or twice though.
