BMW e30 flywheel help

Hi just got myself a cheap 320i for spares . Would I be able to use the the flywheel for a 325i ? Are they the same as I need one for my e30 turbo?

Cover plate is the assembly that bolts to the flywheel, containing the clutch spring, release fingers and the plate that sandwiches the driven plate with the flywheel.

The age of the 320i is important here. If it's pre-facelift (1987) then the ring gear on the flywheel will be different to the 325i starter motor, so you'll need to fit the 320i starter too.

Never heard that before, they are all the same from what ive encountered, apart from the pre-pre facelift and E21 stuff which are just lighter versions of the same flywheel

You sure Dan? I'm only going off what I've uncovered on this forum - never seen any flywheel other than the one on my car

Any other part you think is different? Theres no reason why they would change just the ring gear

"On early Jetronic engines, the flywheel also has lugs which are used by the crank position sensor to detect engine speed. These earlier engines also have different ring gears, meaning a Jetronic flywheel needs a Jetronic starter motor."

Mine is a G reg is that the facelift model ? So using that flywheel and checking starter motor if I was to buy a new clutch kit http://gripforce.com/f1-racing-stage-3- ... 24td-2-4l/ would this come with the bits I need ?

Ahh, yes the early flywheels do have a sensor lug in them, but the ring gears are the same

ETK only shows one starter motor for all production dates, so we can infer that ring gear is the same as well.
The lighter flywheel (6.3kg) is shown up to Sept. '84, with a 8.5kg one fitted from then on.
I think it may be correct that early engines were fitted with a physically larger motor, but the replacement for these is the smaller one fitted to later M20s.
