Sump query

You sure about that Dan?
It was the M47 that had the issues with interchangeability. Pity as the 320d engine would be lovey in an E30.
The M57 is fine though. E35 M5x sumps fit no problem if its the early M57 (184bhp) engine.
I think the later 204bhp M57n is different alright though.
I'm putting an M57 from an E39 530d into my Touring at the moment so will know for certain soon enough

M42 rightness above 6500rpm, nobody can hear you scream
Right. The E34 sump will fit on the block fine but due to the M57 sitting at the same tilt as an M20, the M50 sump will sit at a angle underneath so the left side will sit lower. Will have to be cut and modified for ir to sit level.
Also obviously needs a boss for the oil-return line but that's a small thing.
Ideally, I need a sump from an M57 engined 730d. Finding one might be difficult though.

Ok I have been trying to sort the sump out for mines to I have found that the e34 m50 sump fowls on the crank pulley by 5mm or so causing the front 4 holes not to line up on the block. So I have cut the end of my e34 sump to bring it in accordingly also I have had to remove the guard under the crank which is held on by 6-8 13mm bolts.
