Hi, my idle is low, 600rpm when cold but will drop when changing gear sometimes stalling until warm. If you touch the throttle the revs drop down and bounce up again. When it reaches temp it will still idle at 600rpm but will run OK.
IF i disconect the battery , reconnect and fire it up it idles at 750rpm with no flat spot/ rev dip and runs much nicer, smoother for a day or so then reverts back to shit mode.
Any idea's, no air leaks, ICV vibrates and TPS clicks ?
Also occasionly at around 3000 rpm i have a momentary flat spot , like the engine has been switched off for a second ?
I have reserched Idle problems but not found anything that fits with disconnecting the battery.
cheers
Steve

Helps a lot if you tell us what model and engine we're dealing with!

Take the throttle body off, check that the rubber blanking cap on a stub near the TPS is intact, check that the TPS is adjusted properly and is working electrically.
Remove all six injectors and invest £60 into having them rebuilt and balanced.
Check that the distributor cap and rotor arm, plus the spark plugs are in good condition.
The above will cure 90% of all running problems with a M20, so once this is done, report back with any remaining problems.

www.injectortune.co.uk is the trader on here which cleans the injectors.
As mentioned by Brian all of the above is a possibility along with air leaks from perished vacumn pipes, the o-rings perishing which are used on the breather pipe that runs between the inlet manifold and the block.
Inlet manifold gaskets, loose connections on the vacumn pipes.
Whatever you do do not mess with with idle mixture on the AFM or throttle stop as these are set at the factory and should not be adjusted.
I chased a similar problem for over a year and it ended up all being down to air leaks.
