Hi, first of all, I apologize if this has been covered before, I searched and also went through the wiki but I can't seem to find the answer I want.
All of a sudden, my blower fan only works at stage 4. Stages 1,2,3 are completely dead. I can only imagine 2 things, either the switch or the final stage resistor.
On my E46 it was easy to find and replace the final stage resistor, on the E30, where exactly is located? I can't seem to find it on realoem. The only thing that resembled something similar was a part behind the blower fan.
Also, am I correct in thinking it's the final stage resistor that went bad?
Question about blower fan, works only on stage 4

Thank you,

The location of the resistor is for non-aircondition models, what about the ones with AC ?
Edit, is this one? Part 19

All good info so far but I reckon the fan is getting seized on dry bearings.
remove the fan using the above guide but when releasing the motor clip use a pointy pin punch or large nail in the hole at the bottom of the spring clip (that's what it's for) and lever against the bend in the clip. (i tried the screwdriver approach and really struggled)
use WD40 as a penetrant and follow up with a good oiling to the bearings.
Re-fitting the spring over the motor is fiddly but i used a large screwdriver on the same bend in the spring and snapped the spring into place with blow on the end of the screwdriver with my palm.

It IS the resistor. It is fairly easy to get to it. It is possible to clean with contact cleaner and it MAY work. Best to simply buy a new one and clip it in - which is what i did in 10 min.paris wrote:Fan is brand new, fitted it a few weeks ago, but I could not remember if there was a resistor in there
