What's the sunroof seal held in place with, is it just squeezed into some sort of channel or is it held in place with clips. Also is it in one complete loop or is it just one straight piece of rubber folded around.

Replacements from BMW are apparently very expensive for what they are

Also available as a one piece, which (used to be at least) is much cheaper than both parts of the two piece.

If it just pushes onto the sunroof panel can it be fitted without taking the panel out, maybe in the raised position ?
Wishful thinking.

No,the panel needs to be removed,but it only held by 6 torx female screws.turkeysneck wrote:If it just pushes onto the sunroof panel can it be fitted without taking the panel out, maybe in the raised position ?
Wishful thinking.
On re-fitting,take care to locate the panel correctly,to prevent damage when the lid is open.The rear should be just a touch lower than the roof panel.

To remove the sunroof panel;
Open the roof a couple inches.
Pop the front of the liner off,and allow it to retract into the roof.
Close,then tilt the roof.
You now have access to the mounting bolts.
Going back is Mr Haynes,BUT,lift the rear of the liner as you pull it forward,to allow it to engage with it's lifting arms.This allows the liner to go forward that last quarter inch so that the front clips in easily.

Thanks, not looking forward to that little job. Some super rare clip or something is going to get broke, I know it.
