Picked up a pretty tidy 318is last night, its got one anoying issue though which didnt arrise in the test drive.

On way home i gave it some beans in second, all went well and i was quite serprised tbh!, Then i tried it agian and it reached a wall a 6k rpm and sounded like it was out of fuel/mis firing, i tried agian and the next time hit a limiter at 5k, it kept doing all the way to idle.

Havent got a clue whats up but if you flick the ignition on and of the process will reset and it will go right to the limiter agian.

Any help would be awsome as its letting a rather tidy e30 down :(

Thanks

Matt.

Nice, what colour? Got any pics?

I had something similar on my 318i once and a new fuel filter cured it. Worth a try, especially if the one on there looks like it hasn't been changed for a while.

delhin gray 8)

I think it was just an issue with being stood for so long, or changing the starter motor cured something, (removing all the inlet ect, what a pain in the A*** )

thanks for the advise

fyi the starter comes out the bottom so you don't have to remove anything, well it does on the e36M42 block. Not easy but easier than pulling the inlet apart!

The rev counter shows what the engine is doing, holding revs at 5grand ect, So far so good its not happened since, although a cracked sump has spoiled my fun lol, there not even that low but i can see its taken a battering in its life!

On another note, ive just recived the log book and im the second owner of this car :D

Yes :)

Used to be brilliant red, but no doubt it would have brilliant pink now  .

Good thing is during the respray it looks to have had the body work sorted as its sooooo clean, dent/rust free. By far one of the cleanest e30s ive seen of late, I was expecting to turn up and see an old rusty turd - but was shocked and snapped the guys hand off 8)
