See on the 325, next to the head bolts, there are small holes, i take it these are oil ways?

a few of my head bolt washers are covering these holes, could this be affecting the oils travel into the head causing my rattle? (see post "rattle after rebuild") the haynes manual doesnt say anything about these washers needing to be clear of the holes...

i have removed and cleaned the spray bar, 1 hole was blocked, there is now oil coming from it. i ran it without the rocker cover off the engine to get a better look. everything seems fine, the rattle then comes and goes randomly. i poured new oil over everything as its running and it doesnt affect the noise!

i then got a high pitch screech/squeal (like compressed air squeal (letting air out of a baloon slowly by pinching the end type noise)! could this be the washers covering the holes? dunno how it would make a rattle tho!?!!??

If the cam journals were fucked would this cause a rattle?

any answers to any of my questions would be great...

The small holes next to the head bolts are not oil ways. They are part of the drillings that supply oil from the rocker shafts to the cam bearing journals, the top part of the holes that you can see partly covered by the washers carry no oil and are only there as part of the manufacturing process.

oh and i think the sqeal noise was the breather i blocked up so the car would idle without the rocker cover on...

ignore me, i was in a frustrated panic earlier.

checked timing again...just to make sure...and its still fine...again.

its gotta be the big ends.

ive been having the exact same problem after my rebuild! just havnt had time to post!

I used a cam from GSF new rockers and shafts from ECP i found the key way in the rocker shaft was 3mm out from where its ment to be
 so the rockers are only just on the lobes 8O bit of a coincidence or are they selling duff parts look at the thread http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... highlight=

i take it the swarf was from a set of brand new rocker shafts? i dint get new ones, just new rockers and cam so i didnt think of taking the ends off to check and see if they were clear.

Im pretty sure my troubles are coming from the bottom end and ive done all the head work unneccessarily...but its never a bad thing having brand new parts in your engine, lets just hope they are good and not duff like you say! Gonna check the bottom end, ill post what i find if anything.
