Center prop bearing

Hi guys

Im fitting a new CPB on my E30 (e36 prop) in the morning but i cant remember which way the bearing and carrier goes on, ive noticed its off center so must go one way or the other, anyone help?

also any chance you have a part number? the part i ordered is not correct larger spacing between the bolt holes, have you also replaced the flex joint? mine looked fine on the front but was defiantly cracking on the gearbox side... seen some horrific results to a failing flex joint!

I think I'm right in saying that it goes on with the shallower side facing front of car so once prop is fitted you pull the mount towards the front of car into its loaded position an make bolt holes align, it then doesn't look off centre. This is for e30 anyway so I'm assuming e36 prop will be the same

i really dn,t think it matters but what is a must is putting the bolts in the right way.there should bew arrows on the donut 3 pointing one way and 3 the other.the nuts go on the point of the arrow.if you put them in wrong the guibo will be shot in a year

I had to work it out really because the e30 bearing is off center so if you get it the wrong way its going to send the prop off square i just used string from gearbox to diff and put prop up one way was perfect other way looked wrong

you should always mark the propshaft before you split it mate that means it is still balanced,what do you mean the bearing is off centre

sorry i miss read your post i thought you was talking about fitting new guibo not the centre bearing

You can only fit an E30 prop together in two positions, due to the UJ's and the factory paint marks are usually still there on most

With an E36 prop though both UJ's are on the rear half so take note of position before splitting, although I know a lot of E36ists swap the front and rear half's around without problems

My e36 prop bolted stright up to my e30 using e30 cpb no issues

The bearing is slightly off centre of the middle of the carrier when u buy it.
Yeh mark the propshaft etc before removing it an then fit same place, so much easier.
