In this case, a dose of fresh fuel might help as well.

The Wiki link is pretty good but to summarise.....assuming you have the M40 engine:
Under the long black plastic cover that runs under the windscreen in the engine bay are two relays.
The outer most ie. right side relay is the main relay which picks up +12 volts when ignition is ON.
This supplies +12 volts to the fuel pump relay standing next to it via the Red/White wire (which also supplies +12 volts to injectors) but this fuel pump relay will only energize when the ECU picks up crank pulses as the engine turns over; the ECU supplies ground to the Brown/Green wire on this second relay. If you ground this Brown/Green wire you should hear the fuel pump run without turning over provided the fuse is not blown.
Probably worth replacing the fuel filter and put in fresh fuel, force the pump to run for a while and see if you are getting fuel at the fuel rail and then try start it and test for fuel and spark.
Basically both those relays must be energized while the engine is turning over to provided fuel pump power and injector power. If not, maybe crank sensor is faulty.
