Have you removed the plastic surround? With the earlier type there is a push like button on the side that needs pushing in once you turn the key although it isnt visable until the plastic column surround is removed

turns out that the alloy casting around the steering column has a 2mm hole for inserting an allen key or thin nail with the key on position 1...lock popped out like a good 'un once the steering wheel and lower shroud were off.

oooh... the small block in the ignition barrell can only be pushed in when the key is turned to position 1... if the key cant be turned, then you'll have to sacrifice the barrel, or do a complete column/bracket swap.

btw wiggling the steering wheel while turning the key may release the lock to allow you to get into position1

Have you sprayed it with wd40?

Try that first... If not, and it turns to the first position, you can use a pin nail to slide down into the hole and it pushes and releases the barrel, you'll have to pull on it too from memory

This will help you
