Anyone with air con in a 325 need a favour

Hi,
I am in the process of fitting air con to my 325. The plug that fits into the temperature switch in the rad was missing but i have sourced one just need a pic of what colour wires go where in the connector?? Its factory fit air con and there are 3 wires going to the plug.
Any help greatly appreciated!

I know the plug you mean. It is dark now, but if you don't get an answer before I'll take a look at mine in the morning and post it up for you.

This might b a stupid queation but as you look at the plug from the rear which wires are 1,2,3?? Is it top, bottom left, bottom right or top bottom right, bottom left?? anybody have a pic or can tell me??bss325i wrote:Pin 1 Green/black

If you look closely at the plug the pins should be numbered.

Looking into the buckets of the plug, 2 is on the left, 1 is in the middle and 3 is on the right.
Numbers should be on the rear cover of the plug.

so is that 2 is on the left, 1 is in the middle and 3 is on the right holding the plug so that 1 would be to the top or to the bottom? Sorry another stupid question but i taught i could make out a 3 on one side of it and was on the right if you held it so the 1 in the middle was to the bottom!

best to post a picture of your new plug. So that there's no more confusion as to which is up / down / right left.
E30less again.
Did a bit of inquiring this evening and the plug i have is actually off an e36. Still the same only different shape and wires are different colour. Here is a picture of the plug.



so would i be right in saying as in photo 1 the wires are numbered:
1 Top Middle
2 Bottom left
3 Bottom right.
Any help greatly appreciated.

It is a bit confusing with you having different colour wires.
Perhaps if you knew what the connections do then you can work it out.
The sensor screwed in the radiator is a double thermal switch.
The centre pin (1), normally Green/black wire, is common and must get +12 volts when ignition is ON.
When the temperature of the coolant reaches 90 degrees Centigrade, the common centre point gets switched over to pin (2), normally wire colour black. This energises relay K1...normal speed relay. This relay should also energise via a diode when you press the blue AC button down.
When the coolant reaches 99 degrees Centigrade, the common centre pin gets connected to pin (3), normally Black/Brown wire...this is while the 90 degree switch stays closed.
This now energises relay K6...high speed relay.
So you should find +12 volts on the central pin when ignition is ON.
If you jumper that +12 volts to one of the other pins then either Relay K1 or Relay K6 will energise...jumper them at the same time and both relays energise.
To test the temp sensor you can fit your Ohm meter to the centr pin on the sensor and gently heat up the sensor with a heat-gun or hairdryer. At a certain point you will see that you will get continuity to one of the other sensor pins...that is the normal speed relays' power actuation.
Heat the sensor a bit more and you should get continuity to the other sensor pin. That is for the High speed relay K6.
So basically pushing the AC blue button energises Relay K1 and this relay also gets energised at 90 Degrees centigrade.
Relay K6 is the high speed relay and gets energised at 99 degrees Centigrade.

Or even is the top plug the common and is the left and right for low and high speed?

Heat the sensor up with a heat gun and measure with an Ohm meter which is the common point, which is the 90 degree pin and which is the 99 degree pin.

I know the colours of the wires that should go to each pin of an E36 plug, but your wires look nothing like the correct colours in your pics.

Hi Brian,
The plug came from a 1997 e36 318is. It fits perfectly so if I knew which wires from the e30 loom corresponded to the buckets of the plug (photo 1) or the pins on the switch I can work it from there. I will be changing it for an e30 plug when I come across one. Any help greatly appreciated as I'm trying to get the car back on the road for the summer.
