Has gone mad, either spazzes about all over the place or sits right down at the farthest left it can go.

As the service light has been on for a few weeks is it possible it's the batteries for this have run down?

Hi, cool Joe - what colour car have you got? My first port of call will be looking at the nut, a little job for the weekend.
